Quantum President Noel J Guillama has just published part 1 of his latest article, this time focusing on the amount of of money spent on healthcare in the U.S. and specifically on the fact that approximately half of the estimated $3.4 trillion cost is borne by five percent of the patients.
The five percent largely consist of the 65 years+ population, those affected by chronic illness and victims of injury. However, Noel opines, the situation is exacerbated by the fact that healthcare “rationing” in the U.S. is fundamentally problematical and two solutions can help to reduce costs – firstly the elimination of the existing healthcare model and moving towards full price transparency, and secondly harnessing the opportunity presented by today’s technology which enables electronic health records which are both patient-controlled and have the ability to connect the patient directly to their healthcare providers.
Part 2 will be published soon.
