New Stem Cell Therapy May Help Spinal Cord Injury Patients

A new, cutting-edge stem therapy is being developed in Cleveland, Ohio which could help victims of spinal cord injuries immediately after injury.

In a video article featured on www.spinalcordinjuryzone.com, the company behind the new therapy is revealed to be?Athersys?- a?clinical-stage, biotechnology outfit who specilaize in?developing new?therapies focused on the treatment of conditions?where clinical need are thus far not met by existing therapies, with a special focus on regenerative medicine.

Cleveland resident Scott Fedor – who damaged his spinal cord in an accident several years ago which left him paralysed – is assisting Athersys with their research into the new therapy. While the new therapy might?come too late to be of direct benefit to Scott himself, he is enthused about how ?this research can help others who suffer the same injury as he did, plus the ongoing research into the area of regenrative medicine that might one day help him stand again. As Scott says himself “Now I can do whatever I want, I just do it from a chair for now, but who knows – if technology and research continues to advance, maybe I’ll be doing things on my feet pretty soon.”
